What is it?

My website usability testing assesses how easy a website is to use and if it supplies the visitor with what they are looking for, i.e. it’s no good if a website appears simple to use but doesn’t have what the visitor wants and it’s no good if a website appears to have what a visitor wants but it’s too hard to find!

Many websites I come across are either too complicated, do not deliver the information required or are ugly and a strain on the eye. Either way, when I come across one of these websites, I leave, never to return! I’m sure you do the same.

With that in mind, I now offer a website usability testing service for all website owners.

What do I look for?

The testing involves answering or performing a selection of pre-agreed tasks.

All websites should have a goal, a reason for being and some tasks that you want your visitors to perform. Depending on your type of website some simple tasks might include:

• Subscribe to the newsletter.
• Make a phone call.
• Buy something from the online shop.
• Download a PDF.
• Send feedback.
• Contact us.
• Join the forum.
• Book a holiday online.

Whatever it may be, my usability testing can help you find where the problems are and offer you ways to correct them.

I also take a look at the following

Whilst completing the tasks I will look at various aspects of the website’s design such as:

• Aesthetics
• Impression
• Expected success
• Enthusiasm
• Professionalism
• Ease of use

And also the coding which might include:

• Title tag
• Meta tags
• Alt tags
• Navigation links
• Text links
• H1, H2 and H3 headings
• Text styling
• Colour usage

As you can see it’s pretty comprehensive and will give you definite answers about aspects of your website that need improving in order to grow your business.
